Auditorium, Level 1

The event is presented as part of the exhibition Though it’s dark, still I sing, Works from the 34th Bienal de São Paulo, which is on display at LUMA Arles until March 5, 2023.
During the conversation, curators Diane Lima, Hélio Menezes and Manuel Borja-Villel will present the conceptual foundations, educational Actions and public program of the 35th Bienal de São Paulo.
Moderated by Vassilis Oikonomopoulos, Director of Exhibitions and Programs at LUMA Arles, the three curators will focus on some of the main issues that will be addressed through the work of the selected artists.
The questions of what is possible and what is impossible, and ways in which moving bodies are able to choreograph the possible within the impossible are some of the main stakes of the curatorial proposal of the 35th Bienal de São Paulo. The Bienal articulates itself as an invitation to radical imagination, the creation of a space for collaboration and experimentation, open to the dances of the unimaginable and the unknown.
Composed by Diane Lima, Grada Kilomba, Hélio Menezes and Manuel Borja-Villel, the curatorial team presents itself as a collective that acts horizontally seeking to challenge vertical structures of power and violence, which the world no longer supports.
