Professor of sociology emeritus, director of the Revue du MAUSS, leader of the Mouvement des convivialistes

Alain Caillé is Emeritus Professor of Sociology at the Paris West-Nanterre University. He is the Director-Founder of the MAUSS Review (Anti-Utilitarist Movement in Social Sciences) which, following on the famous Essay on the Gift by Marcel Mauss (1925), criticizes the dominant tendency in social sciences and moral and political philosophy that sees in humans only their dimension as individuals quite separate from each other, indifferent and calculating. His latest book is Extensions du domaine du don. Demander-donner-recevoir-rendre ((Extensions in the Field of the Gift. To ask for-to give-to receive-to return)) (Actes Sud, September 2019). Alain Caillé is furthermore a leader of the Convivialist Movement. The latest text to have appeared is: Internationale convivialiste, Second manifeste convivialiste. Pour un monde post-néolibéral, ((The Convivalist International, The Second Convivalist Manifesto. For a Post-Neoliberal World)) (Actes Sud, February 2020). This text has been signed by 300 intellectuals and militants from 33 different countries.
