Jan Boelen
Artistic Director at Atelier LUMA
Jan Boelen is the Artistic Director of Atelier LUMA, the experimental laboratory for design of LUMA Arles, in France and he also holds the position of head of the Master Department Social Design at Design Academy Eindhoven, in the Netherlands. He also serves on various boards and committees including the advisory board of the V&A Museum of Design Dundee in the UK and Creative Industries Fund in the Netherlands. He was the curator of the 4th Istanbul Design Biennial, in 2018, in Turkey and the 24th Biennial of Design in Ljubljana, in 2014, in Slovenia as part of his role as Artistic Director of Z33, House for Contemporary Art, in Hasselt, Belgium, a position he held from 1996 to 1999. At the initiative of Z33 and the Province of Limburg, Manifesta 9 took place in Belgium in 2012. With Z33 Research, design and art research studios established in 2013, Jan Boelen transformed Z33 from an exhibition-based to a research-based institution.
