Philippe Descola
Philippe Descola is a French anthropologist. After contributing to the ethnology of Amazonia, based on surveys among the Achuar Jivaro, he has devoted himself for years to the comparative anthropology of relations between humans and non-humans, and, more recently, to the anthropology of images. Professor emeritus at the Collège de France, he is the author of Domestic Nature, The Spears of Twilight (The New Press, 1996), Beyond Nature and Culture (The University of Chicago Press, 2013), Diversity of Natures.Diversity of Cultures, The Ecology of Others (Prickly Paradigm Press, 2013), Composing Worlds, An EcologyRelations, and Forms of the Visible. He was awarded the CNRS Gold Medal in 2012. Philippe Descola is a member of the British Academy and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
