Picture Industry

Picture Industry: a provisional history of the technical image, 1844-2018 explores the rich history of mechanically reproduced imagery from the 19th century to the present. Mixing contributions from major postwar and contemporary artists whose work is rooted in this technical history developed through photojournalism, conceptual photography, and experimental video, the exhibition reflects its curator Walead Beshty's longstanding critical engagement with the mechanical, formal, political, and ontological dimensions of the photographic medium.
