At the end July 2020, Europe was coming out of many months of Covid-19 confinement that brought with it as much optimism about getting back to “normal” as it did revelations of deeply imbedded inequalities and the need for social reform. This is the backdrop that prompted an exchange between Richard Sennett, Maja Hoffmann, and Hans Ulrich Obrist on what it means to start an art-based institution in and for the 21st century.
