2018: the installation DO WE DREAM UNDER THE SAME SKY, by conceptual artist Rirkrit Tiravanija and architects Nikolaus Hirsch and Michel Müller is presented at LUMA Arles' Parc des Ateliers.
Conceived as an open-air shelter made of bamboo and steel, this installation is a continuation of The Land project, a model for sustainable development developed by Rirkrit Tiravanika and Kamin Lertchaiprasert near Chiang Mai, Thailand, since 1998.
The work presented in Arles includes an open-air kitchen, an herb garden and a shared dining area where the public can eat, drink and relax. This project reflects countless discussions between artists about urbanization in a post-rural society, production as a collaborative process, and the notion of land without relation to ownership.
Through DO WE DREAM UNDER THE SAME SKY, Rirkrit Tiravanija, Nikolaus Hirsch and Michel Müller consider land as a source of improvisation and collaboration, but also as a means of questioning existing institutional structures.
