L'École des mutants is an art and research platform that brings together artists, film-makers, video makers, but also researchers and activists working on the reappropriation and transmission of knowledge together through multimedia installations, fieldwork, public assemblies etc.
This school, located 30 minutes away from Dakar, was created in 2018 and is particularly interested in abandoned or forgotten schools or university sites, born at the time of the independence of certain African countries from the colonialist yoke. It is based on field surveys and archival research that crystallized great political promises, third-world solidarity and post-colonial disenchantment.
In this video, Hamedine Kane, Olivia Anani and Stéphane Verlet-Bottéro present this project that questions and reveals the intertwining of power, knowledge, architecture and space.
