Lucid Intervals: Tornadoes

One weekend per month, from October, 2026 to April, 2027, LUMA Arles offers a series of screenings followed by discussions at the Parc des Ateliers, with free admission. Screenings specially designed for young audiences are part of the program.
Focusing on a different theme each month, these sessions are part of a proposal that also includes exchanges with speakers, researchers, filmmakers, and the audience, on how these films contribute to changing our perceptions.

A weather phenomenon of extraordinary force, the tornado becomes a sign to be deciphered: a harbinger of prophecy or madness in Jeff Nichols’s work, the horizon of an existential quest for a wandering tribe in Bako Sadykov and Aitmatov’s, and a force of pure slapstick chaos in Buster Keaton’s climactic cyclone.

The truth lies somewhere beyond the horizon, in a place in the world where those who survive—or rather, those who wish to continue living—converge.
Discussion
The screening will be followed by a discussion with Anouchka Vasak, co-director of the “Perception of Climate” research network at the École Normale Supérieure in Paris and co-editor of the “Météos” series published by Éditions Hermann, and Martin Guinard, curator at LUMA Arles.
