Interview with Verena Paravel

In this conversation, artist and filmmaker Verena Paravel introduces Delta, a film born from research conducted in the Camargue during her residency at LUMA Arles. Through this project, she explores the phenomena that usually escape our senses—vibrations, signals, and forms of communication that move through the world beyond what we can see or hear.

While our relationship with nature is often shaped by images, Delta invites us to shift our attention toward listening. Drawing in part on biotremology—the study of vibrations produced by living organisms—Verena Paravel reveals a world that remains largely beyond human perception. It is a world that constantly surrounds us, yet lies mostly outside the reach of our biological senses.

How might our relationship with the world change if we could access these hidden forms of perception? What if we saw ourselves as one species among countless others, rather than as the dominant presence? Through Delta, Verena Paravel imagines a way of inhabiting the world that is less human-centered and more attentive to the many forms of life that surround us.
