Soundwalk Collective & Patti Smith: "Prince of Anarchy" | "CORRESPONDENCES (Live)"

This video excerpt presents Prince of Anarchy, one of several pieces which make up the performance CORRESPONDENCES (Live) by Soundwalk Collective & Patti Smith. Presented in the context of the opening of the exhibition CORRESPONDENCES at La Grande Halle, LUMA Arles, on July 5 and 6, 2026, the performance features Patti Smith, Stephan Crasneanscki, and Simone Merli of Soundwalk Collective, alongside Lucy Railton, Diego Espinosa Cruz Gonzales, and Pedro Maia.

Opening with wolf howls and the voice of Jean-Luc Godard directing actors in a snow scene in Siberia, this piece weaves together footage of glaciers, cracking ice, and shamanic calls of the Baikal region. Here, Patti Smith invokes the Russian revolutionary and geographer Peter Kropotkin (1842-1921), whose expeditions to Siberia shaped early scientific understandings of glacial retreat and informed his anarchist vision of mutual aid across species. Through its poetic address to Kropotkin, the work reframes his century-old theories as a prophetic meditation on today’s ecological crisis.
