    Interview with Hans Ulrich Obrist about Gustav Metzger

    "That happens only with the greatest artists that every generation not only finds it relevant, but can take something else."

    This year, the Hans Ulrich Obrist Archives at LUMA Arles dedicate their fourth chapter to exploring the work of Gustav Metzger, a key figure in ecology and activism in the arts.

    How did the friendship and collaboration between Hans Ulrich Obrist and Gustav Metzger begin? How have Metzger’s projects, such as the "Extinction Marathon" and "Remember Nature", contributed to the evolution of environmental concerns in the art world? How has Metzger influenced the generations of artists that followed him through his art and practice?

    In this interview, Hans Ulrich Obrist pays tribute to his friend and invites us to rediscover Gustav Metzger, whose work and ideas remain a cornerstone of ecological causes in the 20th and 21st centuries.
