Interviewed on the occasion of It’s Urgent!, presented at LUMA Arles in 2020, artist Sara Sadik discusses a practice shaped by her observations of teenagers and young adults from working-class neighborhoods, with a particular focus on how young men express their emotions.
Through her poster, as well as her films, performances, and projects developed with teenagers, she explores representations of masculinity, feelings of exclusion, and the ways society perceives these young people. Blending fiction, references to popular culture, and lived experience, Sara Sadik creates spaces where they can tell their own stories, express their sensitivity, and shape their own representations.
