In this interview, Akari Takenobu, winner of the 2026 Dior Photography and Visual Arts Award for Young Talents, discusses Threshold.

Presented at LUMA Arles as part of the exhibition dedicated to the Award’s ninth edition, the photographic series explores the boundaries between our physical bodies and spirits, invisible presences, and other unknown entities. Takenobu begins with photographs of her own body, then cuts apart and reassembles the images, gradually stripping the body of its material form.

How can we give shape to the formless? How can we represent what we can neither see nor fully explain?
