    “With Ifs, We Could Change the Future"

    Starting from a tangible example—the work of architects who build houses from mycelium—can we conduct a thought experiment? How might it change the way we inhabit the world if, instead of living within inert materials, we lived with other living beings that shelter us while, in a sense, becoming our permanent hosts? Can we imagine psychology and sociology taking into account the emergence of new actors within the very fabric of our intimacy? And what if fiction offered a way to explore these questions? Fictions that prepare us, in the words of Gilles Deleuze and Félix Guattari, to "diagnose"—that is, to learn to perceive the processes of becoming unfolding in every passing present.
