"Piracy has never ended, and neither has marronage."

In this video, Caribbean science fiction writer Michael Roch explains how the genre enables him to explore political ideas. He presents counter-dystopia as a form of storytelling in which individuals reclaim their agency in the pursuit of a better future.

He also discusses marronage as an enduring practice of resistance and draws inspiration from the tembé art of French Guiana in his narrative approach, highlighting the vital role of cultural traditions in literary creation.
