Network imperialism: AI and technofascism

What myths accompany the development of artificial intelligence? Drawing on the concept of technofascism, Norman Ajari examines the political, economic, and cultural transformations driven by the major corporations of Silicon Valley.

Bringing together critical race theory, the history of capitalism, and political philosophy, he analyzes the promises of innovation, automation, and progress that accompany the rise of AI. From digital platforms to the technological devices that have shaped the imagination of the twenty-first century, he shows how these narratives help naturalize new forms of power and concentrate control over the future in the hands of a small group of economic actors.

By placing contemporary discourses on artificial intelligence in dialogue with the history of racial capitalism and slavery, Norman Ajari interrogates the ideals of efficiency, availability, and optimization that run through contemporary technologies. His presentation thus explores the mythological dimensions of today’s technological project and the social, racial, and environmental hierarchies it helps reproduce.
